Jazzman Eric Séva is an authentic and eclectic colourist very active on today’s scene in France. In spite of his multi-faceted talent in different contexts, we had no insight into the personal side of his approach – this album will set the situation to rights! This first personal project is surprisingly fresh, and places Eric amongst those musicians who think of jazz as being linked to dance. In his opinion, compositions tell a story, and these stories with their lilting melodies and rhythms are the perfect illustration of his desire to share his feelings with us, whilst appealing to our imagination. “Folklores Imaginaires” invites the listener on a journey to discover his personal folklore, the stories that have shaped the inspired musician and the man he is. His chosen instruments for this adventure are unexpected to say the least. The baritone and sopranino sax lead us into his world, where his lyrical, expressive sound underlines the originality of his music. Eric Séva places himself at the crossroads between the traditions of his musical heritage, modernity, and all he has acquired through his wide experience, symbolized by some sixty albums he’s taken part in. This one gives us the chance to discover his talent as a composer too. His music is catching; as soon as you hear it, you’re swept off on a colourful trip through jazz and world music by a coherent group, whose rich and meaningful array of sounds will surprise you.
