Indifferent to the frivolity of passing fashion or the different pulls of ephemeral trends, unmoved by intelligent (or less than!) or benevolent remarks, however well-meaning, Angelo Debarre remains unperturbed and carries on his way in the world, carving out his own path in a musical universe many go through without leaving any trace of their passage at all.
Yet he would be perfectly justified in resting on his laurels, managing what he already knows and the reputation he’s gained, for his contribution to this music is unanimously recognised for what it is – passionate, unflinching, thorough – on every album he’s made: there’s not one that isn’t essential and timeless. But Angelo Debarre is an insatiable, tireless traveller, one who moves Entre Ciel et Terre [Between Heaven and Earth], and this new album, Gipsy Unity, is no exception to the rule. Its density of content and style are evidence of the level of his mastery.
